We have launched our first project this year (2022). Community and public health leaders in Bungoma, Kenya. have asked us to work with them to establish Bungoma Community Health link, a center that supports people with serious mental illness to thrive and survive in their community.  The Board of this local community-based organization (CBO) consists of fifteen Board members as required by the local government. Thus far we have rented a building and identified potential staff. We are particularly fortunate that David Kapten, an experienced and brilliant community mental health practitioner will lead this project. Mr. Kapten, who was brought up in Bungoma has also had extensive experience working in the United States. As well, other practitioners, clinicians, researchers, community leaders and government officials have expressed their desire to support the launch and its ongoing development.  People living with mental illness and their families will be actively involved. The goal is to create a vibrant and sustainable center where people living with serious mental illness will have the social interventions that they need to succeed in their larger community. We hope that this center will serve as a model that can be adopted and replicated throughout Kenya and East Africa.
